Intense and tireless effort was dedicated to buying and preserving the homes of some of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and other early residents, and to curbing destructive growth. As a result, Historic Annapolis succeeded in the Colonial Annapolis Historic District being added to the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark.
